Sensitive Material and East Austin Studio Tour!

Had a meeting with the charming Ilea Avalos of Doe Gallery, East Austin this lunchtime. Doe Gallery are a collection of painters, sculptors and video art enthusiasts based in their studio on 14th and Chestnut.

They're taking part in the famous E.A.S.T (East Austin Studio Tour) in November of this year and have invited us to launch Sensitive Material Austin during that event.

E.A.S.T runs from Nov 12 to Nov 22. We'll be showing scheduled projections of SM works to a seated audience several times a day across both weekends.

So- If you'd like your work to be shown at this event you have until October 29 to submit your moving image.

We're working on an online submission system but for the time being please just email matthew@sensitivematerial.org for a submission form, and more information.

Changes!

Such is the flux of the Art world- a few changes need to be announced. Firstly, we've had to move away from our originally intended venue due to various scheduling conflicts. This is sad indeed, however there is no doubt that once these issues are ironed out we'll certainly took towards Mister Tramps as a venue in the future.

We are in talks with a Studio in East Austin run by some Video Art veterans. We are making progress with negotiating a show for the material we have collected in mid October. Keep your eyes peeled or updates.

Secondly, our roving Curator Adam Boley has asked to take more of a backseat at SM, due to the recent success and positive publicity of his own exhibition schedule. We wish him all the best!

Lighting systems!

So we're buying lights today. Getting LED rail system. Going to be amazing. We'll have complete colour temperature control, barely any heat, plus no UV! First show scheduled for the end of Sept.

Still thinking about matching colours. I think we're going for a 3 to 4 ft white stripe for hanging/projecting images, on a dark grey background, to preserve the dark feel of the bar. Painting should be finished by next week!

Sensitive Material and Mister Tramps!!

So the venue for the upcoming Austin-based Sensitive Material show is going to be the popular North Austin bar Mister Tramps. We are super-excited to be in partnership with these guys and they have been extremely accommodating to our needs. Mister Tramps has been a North Austin institution for many years, famous for their wide-ranging extra-curricular (sometimes even bizarre!) events schedule and their way-too-good-for-bar-food bar food. We have been granted the use of their 780sqft events room, and adjacent corridor. We are fully renovating the space, with a lick of paint and a complete lighting re-install (more info to come). Mister Tramps is a fantastic venue for Sensitive Material. Located between two of Austin's arterial highways, and miles from the nearest gallery, we aim to become the cultural heart of North Austin, engaging a previously art-starved population desperate for both artistic enrichment, and liquid refreshment.
